Here's to Love That Moves Quietly But Changes Everything
/A few weeks ago, our wonderful swim teacher, Deana, shared a post on the Little Fins blog about a mom going through an incredibly hard time and how they were trying to help her. Something about it just stopped me. I couldn’t scroll past. The story, the strength, the love behind everyone rallying around her- it all caught my heart and stayed there.
I ended up helping organize an online raffle to support her, and what unfolded was one of the most moving things I’ve ever been part of. Small shops offered donations, people jumped in for $5 spots, and before long, an entire community had come together with open hearts.
This cause meant a lot to me personally. My husband’s mom passed away from breast cancer, and I’ve had close friends and family who have faced it too- some still fighting, others thankfully in remission. Because of that, this story felt deeply familiar. It was a reminder of both the heartbreak and the hope that come when people choose to care.
By the end, we had raised $1,000 for this momma and her family. Watching it happen was an emotional experience that’s hard to describe. Strangers showed up for someone they’d never met, and it reminded me how powerful love and compassion can be when we let them lead the way.
What I’ll remember most isn’t the total raised or the details of organizing- it’s the way one small moment of empathy rippled outward and became something beautiful. Love still matters. Kindness still heals. And sometimes, all it takes is pausing long enough to care.
To everyone who donated, shared, or bought a spot- thank you. Your kindness made a real difference. And to Deana, for sharing this story in the first place, thank you for reminding us what community truly looks like. You sparked something beautiful, and I’m so grateful to have witnessed the way love showed up.
Here’s to love that moves quietly but changes everything.
