A Swim Meet That Feels Like a Celebration
What happens when you take away the pressure of traditional swim team competitions and focus on what really matters? You get Little Fins Swim Meets: events where your child shows off skills they’ve been building in lessons, swims alongside friends, and leaves with a ribbon and a smile.
Held quarterly at our Union location, these swim meets create opportunities for young swimmers to experience what it feels like to compete without the intensity of club teams or the structure of year-round competitive swimming. It’s swimming for the joy of it, with just enough friendly competition to make the afternoon exciting.
All Little Fins swimmers are welcome to participate. Whether your child has been taking lessons for years or just recently became comfortable swimming independently, there’s a place for them at our swim meets. We organize events by age group, ensuring swimmers compete with others at similar developmental stages. Every participant receives a ribbon, and age-group winners earn special recognition based on their combined event times.
For families new to swim meets, here’s what makes Little Fins events different: we’re not looking for perfect technique. Instead, we’re celebrating the progress your child has made, giving them a chance to swim in front of family and friends, and creating an experience where participating feels rewarding regardless of where they place.
These events also serve as skill demonstrations for swimmers who may be ready to advance to the next level in their regular lessons. Instructors watch swimmers perform skills in a different context, observing how techniques hold up when your child is swimming with purpose and energy rather than during standard instruction.

How Little Fins Swim Meets Work
Swim meets at Little Fins follow a straightforward structure designed to keep things moving while giving each swimmer their moment in the pool. Events are organized by age group, with specific time blocks assigned so families know exactly when to arrive. Your child’s swim time is communicated in advance and scheduled through our online portal, eliminating guesswork about when to show up.
The cost to participate is $30 per child, covering all events your swimmer enters plus their participation ribbon. Registration opens before each quarterly meet, and spaces fill based on enrollment in each age group. Estimated timing for Little Fins Swim Meets are 3:00-6:00pm. However, meet times may vary slightly depending on enrollment numbers for each age group. Your child’s exact swim time will be clearly communicated in advance and scheduled correctly.
Ages 4 and Under: Swimmers in this age group participate in up to three events, which may include freestyle (patterned or unpatterned), backstroke, back kicks, swim-float-
swim, or kick boat. These events reflect the foundational skills young swimmers develop in early lessons, focusing on comfort and basic water movement.
Ages 5 to 6: This age group participates in all four stroke events: freestyle (patterned or unpatterned), backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. Swimmers at this stage are building stroke recognition and developing the coordination needed for different swimming styles.
Ages 7 to 8: Swimmers compete in 50-foot events across all four strokes: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. The increased distance reflects growing endurance and technique refinement that happens during these developmental years.
Ages 9 and Up: Older swimmers participate in longer events, swimming 100 feet for freestyle and backstroke, and 50 feet for breaststroke and butterfly. These distances challenge stamina while showcasing the technical skills developed through continued instruction.
Swimmers compete in heats with others in their age group, and overall age-group winners are determined by combined times across all events. Award ceremonies happen after each age group finishes their events, keeping the energy high and ensuring families don’t wait around for hours before recognition.
What Makes Little Fins Swim Meets Special
Swim meets at Little Fins prioritize celebration over competition. Yes, there are winners and recognition for fast times, but the real goal is creating an environment where every child feels successful for participating. All swimmers leave with a ribbon, and the supportive atmosphere means kids cheer for each other rather than viewing fellow swimmers as rivals.
These events happen at our Union location, which provides the space and facilities needed to accommodate multiple age groups throughout the afternoon. The heated indoor pool maintains comfortable temperatures year-round, so swim meets happen consistently across all four seasons without weather interruptions or postponements.
The quarterly schedule means swim meets don’t require the weekly commitment of joining a swim team, making them accessible for families with busy schedules or children involved in other activities. Your child participates when it works for your family, without the pressure of letting down teammates or missing crucial competitions.
For Colorado Springs families, these swim meets offer something often hard to find: a middle ground between recreational lessons and competitive swimming.
Your child gets to experience what organized swimming events feel like without the intensity or time commitment of club teams. It’s a taste of competition that
builds confidence and creates memories without overwhelming young swimmers or their families.
