In 2016 Simone Manuel became the first Black female swimmer to win an individual Olympic gold. It was around age 12 that Simone became focused on swimming and it soon became apparent that she had the ability to be special. She turned into a force to be reckoned with in and out of the pool.

New Year, New Start: 2023 Deadliest Drowning Year in Colorado History

2023 was the deadliest year for drownings on record in Colorado lakes, rivers, and streams. Falling into a pool of water with clothes on can produce fear and hysteria in an otherwise calm swimmer. It is important to practice in clothing and shoes during lessons. Little Fins is using January to invite babies to the pool in their pajamas to practice infant survival in their clothes.

I have had the honor and privilege of knowing Ms. Deana since we were 14 years old…Ms. Deana came to me in January, and with tears in her eyes, and told me she had been diagnosed with the most aggressive type of breast cancer. We sat together and cried in the staff room at Union location.
